Why Bother With Breakfast?

It doesn’t matter why you may be tempted to skip breakfast, whether it’s because you are too busy, or because you weren’t hungry…we have ALL had that morning where we just don’t do it! I can guarantee that by ten o’clock on those days you don’t feel like a million bucks. I know I never do and I can pick out the people around me who just aren’t focusing either!

Eating breakfast gives me energy, increasing my perkiness during the day. What my mom is always harping is true too: If you are skipping breakfast to try to lose weight, you might want to do a little bit more research. To check up on her blather I went to MayoClinic.com to research a little more about the importance of breakfast. Yup, its true! “Eating breakfast gets you on track to make healthy choices all day. People who eat breakfast regularly tend to eat a healthier diet — one that is more nutritious and lower in fat. When you skip breakfast, you’re more likely to skip fruits and vegetables the rest of the day too.” says nutritionist Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.

Here’s a couple of tips that work for me and my friends…Think about the school lunch and breakfast programs. Just pop in before your friends get there if you are embarrassed. Or, better yet, drag them with you and help out. Eat on the way to school! Try taking a toasted waffle with or some dry cereal to eat just before class at your locker. There’s ways to fit it in without too much hassle.

Lola

Lola lives with her parents and pet in a large urban centre in Canada. She is 15 years old and highly engaged in her own life, learning and growth. Her hobbies are dance, drama, leadership, photography and facebook. She is a pretty typical teen who atypically lives with an intensely motivated healthy mom. She will share her thoughts du jour here in hopes that other moms can understand their kids a little better. Sometimes she will engage her friends to guest post and all comments will be monitored by that intensely motivated healthy mom. Whatever.

My teenaged daughter’s favourite breakfast is SOUP! Hey, whatever gets her eating is okay with me. Glad to have a teen point of view on this site!

I think I’ll suggest my daughter read your posts! Great suggestions for my teens, and for me!
