This Pantry is Clean

Broken Record Alert:

In this chapter, 7 of Spades, ol’ Theresa wants us to clean out our pantry. Well, we’ve done this. Over and over. Our pantry is a thing of beauty. OK, we’re not angels, but it’s pretty darn close.

The broken record part is that, it’s not the knowledge we lack, it’s the discipline to stay on track, eat well on the go and eat well when time is scarce. Ace Your Health has some great aspects, tips, routines and suggestions that help us in this category. Having read ahead to….the end, yes, the complete book, I have found many useful chapters and very knowledgeable sections that are really helping us get to the next level.

To clean out our pantry, and throw things out would be an insult to Anita, whom is a very smart shopper when it comes to buying good canned, jarred and packaged items. Are there Professional Label Readers out there? Well, Anita can read a label with the best of them and she generally fills the pantry with good, low sodium, healthy options. We just need to watch our ways when it comes to stocking ‘the other’ pantry items, like snacks and when we do, limit the amount so that there is no way to over indulge. Then, carry this smart shopping over to those moments when we’re low on time, or out for lunch. As well, we feel there is a lot to learn about more of a variety of the good pantry items which of course, Theresa is very much helping us with.

Speaking of all of this pantry stuff, we are actually low on a few staples and need to go shopping. I think it’s a good time to try a few things mentioned in this chapter that we haven’t tried in a while. Pumpkin, Artichokes, and Sauerkraut. And we will have a go at Theresa’s One Pot Tomato Sauce and report back on that. I am interested to see how it turns out with the use of grapeseed oil and artichokes.

P.S. I wish I had a photo of my pantry when I first moved out! That would be a site for Theresa’s eyes!

Dave & Anita

Dave & Anita

At age 43 and neither unfit, nor of perfect health, we have a lifestyle that requires constant focus. The “go, go, go” lifestyle of a being working parents gets the better of us. 5 years ago, we made major life decisions to quit smoking and get healthy, which for the most part has been successful. Anita, is an outstanding partner in our busy lifestyle and manages to be a dedicated mother. As a full time worker who travels regularly, she is no stranger to the dangers of living the life where meals are being fit into tiny windows of time each day. Together, we are making this journey even more interesting as we move through the Ace Your Health program and share how they apply it applies to our entire family.
