Pro Probiotics

I am a big pro-biotic fan.  As a kid, I had terrible tummy issues that left me hospitalized before the age of 2.  I was constantly in pain and had bathroom troubles in one direction or the other.  I doubt it is a co-incidence that I landed up as a nutritionist. It is a surprise that I love food as much as I do, it could have gone the other way.

I do not believe the adage “you are what you eat”. I do believe that “you are what you can digest”. If the digestive system isn’t working well, there is no way that your body is able to get all of the nutrients from the food that you are eating.

I have been taking and telling clients to take probiotics for over 15 years. And my job got a lot easier when Multibionta (the number one multivitamin in Europe for over 10 years) came to Canada.  It is a multivitamin plus a shelf stable pro-biotic that is coated to make sure it lives through the stomach acid and can get to work in the bowel.

Here are the benefits:

  • Improved digestion-The good bacteria in your gut is responsible for breaking down and distributing nutrients throughout your body.  Especially (but not only) after taking anti-biotics, your body needs the good bacteria replenished in order to keep it all moving.
  • Enhanced Immune system
    • The good bacteria from probiotics form a protective line of defence in the bowel. It has been shown that people with strong pro-biotic activity can more easily fight off not only food  borne pathogens more easily but also colds and flu.
    • Better lactose tolerance-It is probiotic cultures that produce the enzyme lactase which is required to digest dairy. Adding a probiotic can help reduce the symptoms of lactose intolerance.

There is only one way to find out if Multibionta is right for you and that is to try it.  Take the Multbionta challenge and you can instantly download a coupon to pick some up at a great discount.  I will be over on their facebook page watching to see how you do!

My friends at Multibionta have supported this blog.

Theresa Albert

I love food, try to watch my weight, know more than I want to about healthy living (sometimes I wish I knew less so I wouldn’t feel so guilty when I stumble), am a daughter, sister, friend, mom and wife who worries and scurries the meals onto the table. It is for all these reasons that I completed my nutrition, RNCP designation, wrote my book, hosted my Food Network show, consult with food companies to urge them to get it right (or at least better), constantly write about it, research it, all of this so I can cut through the nutrition and food “news” clutter. Happy to share with friends!

Thank you for this helpful information – I have an 11 year old son with terrible tummy problems too – and I would never get him to swallow a pill like this. Any liquid solutions?

My probiotics are gel caps – and easier to swallow than honking big vitamin pills. Does the company have priobiotic only culture pills in gel caps?
