Krispy Kreme Heaven/Hell

2011-09-03_21-01-11_362

I have a confession to make – I ate a Krispy Kreme this weekend. Okay, not just a Krispy Kreme, but a Krispy Kreme hamburger. I am confessing it here, I mentioned it several times on Twitter and I think it was even posted it to Facebook. And you want to know something – it was good. Beyond good really. It was the perfect marriage  – the Brangelina of fast food.

I also ate a snow cone, sugar donuts and sampled deep fried butter with caramel topping.

Despite all the artery clogging happening, it made me feel young again. Not for any other reason than – I was bad. Real bad. I had that adrenaline rush that only comes when you know you are entering into “bad behavior” territory. Like the time you stole your mom’s smokes out of her purse or drank your dad’s booze. The times when you were wicked, and loved every second of it. That my friends was the rush I felt.

Sadly, just like in those teen age years, the high was short lived. Within a few hours, maybe even minutes, I came crashing down. Physically, not literally. I got tired. My pants felt tighter. And I was plagued with what I can only describe as sugar remorse. What had I done? Why did I just consume over 2000 calories in less than one hour? Was my 6o minute bike ride enough to offset the caloric mountain I had just consumed?

Sugar is not my friend. It is not my bed fellow nor my partner in crime. Sugar is the bully. The kid that taunts you with promises of a tastier life, only to deliver a heart breaking reality of an expanding midriff.

Sugar needs to be locked away in one of those Siberian underground prisons you see in Laura Croft movies – never to see the light of day again. But until that day happens – use it in moderation.

    I indulged at the CNE as well: caramel apple and 3 dozen Tiny Toms donuts. No guilt–CNE is only once a year.

    OMG! The Krispy Kreme burger!!

    I told my friends here in Vancouver about them and NO ONE believed me! You ate one and lived to tell! (-;

    The brangelina of fast food – ha! Too funny.

    Thank goodness the CNE/PNE only comes around once a year!
